When He Returns

Bob Dylan performs in 2012Sitting here at the library at Colorado College getting some writing done, listening to some tunes as background distraction.

Have heard this song tens of thousands times – it’s so beautiful – but particularly struck by these few lines this morning because of some things going on in my own soul and life at this season of my life. So, thought I would share it.

Surrender your crown on this blood-stained ground, take off your mask
He sees your deeds, He knows your needs even before you ask
How long can you falsify and deny what is real?
How long can you hate yourself for the weakness you conceal?
Of every earthly plan that be known to man, He is unconcerned
He’s got plans of His own to set up His throne
When He returns
