On Sept. 11, 2001 – that treacherous day for our nation – Bob Dylan released a new album, Love and Theft. I think it was one of his absolute best. Now, eleven years later, to the day, Bob will release his 48th disc entitled Tempest. This appears 50.5 years since he recorded his first album in 1962. Of course, I am extremely excited for Sept 11’s release.
These last decade or so found Dylan producing a string of albums as strong, creative and fresh as any previous decade, including his earthshaking 1960s.
NPR offers a pre-release listen to – Duquesne Whistle – the title track from Tempest here. Best line: “I can hear a sweet voice gently calling. Must be the mother of our Lord.”
If you never got Dylan, this track will offer you little. If you dig Dylan – even a wee bit – this will bring a smile to your face and joy to your heart. Masterful and glorious.
